Samuel Dalembert (photo source : http://www.nba.com) Four NBA seasons, 254 game appearances, averaging 7.0 points, with 7.0 rebounds and 1.90 blocks per game and one of the best shooter in his class at 52.9 % …Yes! We are talking about our own Samuel Dalembert. Samuel Davis Dalembert was born on May 10, 1981 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
At 6 ft 11", he wears size 16 sneakers and is more famous as "Sammy". His sporting skills were noticed when he started playing hoops in Montreal and at Seton Hall University. He is like a gem that sparkles with the moonlight and has been a top of the line achiever for the Philadelphia Sixers averaging 3 blocks per game and this placed him in the super elite category.
Samuel Dalembert is known for his skills as a shot-blocker and a rebounder. While playing with Steven Hunter, they were termed as the twin towers and his career began as a sophomore at Seton Hall. Within a very short span of time, Sammy became the career leader at Seton Hall with 167 blocked shots averaging 8.3 points in 2000-01. This was the first step towards his rise to fame. His career high in 2000-01 was 14 rebounds and this happened at West Virginia. His 107 blocks is hreferred to as the second highest single season total in school history.
From School, he jumped straight into the Rookie NBA season and played in 34 games in 2001-2002. His average was 1.5 points and he made 2.0 rebounds per game in 5.2 minutes. With a knee injury, he missed 28 games from Oct. 30 to Dec. 3 and 12 games from March 1 to March 24. Apart from the knee injury, it was almost magical to see him play. Samuel played a season-high of eight rebounds at Orlando (2/23) and his best game of the season was at Utah (12/29). At Utah, Samuel did three blocks in 13 minutes. Samuel made his NBA debut at Sacramento (12/4) and scored his first NBA points versus Milwaukee (12/14).
The 2002-03 NBA season started with bad news and was probably a time that Samuel would never want to talk about. He spent most of his time on the injury list. He later went on to have an arthroscopic left knee surgery in October. The 2003-04 NBA season started off well and as Samuel averaged 8.0 points with 7.6 rebounds. In 82 games he shot 54.1 % from the field. The best moment was when he received the NBA most improved player award finishing with 189 blocked shots. He scored 15 double-doubles and 11 of them were after the All-Star Break. Samuel scored a team-leading 23 points in the season-finals at Orlando (4/14) and his career-highs in field goals rounded off at 10. He gathered 18 points and 18 rebounds at Atlanta (4/6) and added five blocks before fouling out in 50 minutes… pulled down a career-high 19 rebounds and also got 11 points at Portland (4/1).
The 2004-05 started with the third NBA Season as he averaged 8.2 points, with 7.5 rebounds and 1.68 blocks per game. Samuel shot 52.4 percent from the field reaching an overall (250-477 FG). He went into the ranking line up as one of the league leaders in blocked shots per game (16th, 1.68) and rebounds per game (26th, 7.5). This season took him to another high in his career as he reached a total of 121 blocked shots, with three 20-point games. At Orlando (1/22), he tied a career-high with 24 points (11-13 FG) and added 16 rebounds at Orlando (1/22). The 3rd NBA season also saw some injuries as he missed out 10 games (5 due to injury; 5 DNP-CD). He later on missed two more games (11/9 & 11/10), thanks to a strained right hamstring.
The 2005-06, his fourth NBA season, has been good and he was ranked 6th in the NBA for blocks per game (2.42) and ranked 8th overall with total blocks of 180. He shot 70.5 percent from the line (93-132 FT) and 53.1 percent (196-369 FG) from the floor. Samuel set a season high with seven blocks vs. Boston (1/13) and blocked more than five shots in a single game 13 times (7-6). He also achieved a career-best 42-game streak and grabbed 10-plus rebounds in a game 22 times (10-12). Like the previous season, he was back on the injury list and missed 16 games.
