“Introducing Haiti to Santo Domingo

Festival of the Island Second Edition

FEBRUARY 2008 -
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic - Crashing waves, white sandy beaches, fresh air, clear skies equals an outstanding vacation, but by adding spectacular music, a cultural extravaganza and the Festival of the Island, it now becomes the vacation of your dreams. The Dominican Republic played host to a historical event last year, where Venus International Productions and Brotherhood Forever, Inc. made history by hosting the first Festival of the Island. An event that was both pioneering and innovative, the festival served as an example for others to follow.

Begun as a means to bridge the gap, Festival of the Island’s focus has been to cater to those students and professionals who reside in Santo Domingo by giving them a taste of their native town, while also introducing a more positive side of Haiti to Dominicans in general. There is a commonality to the cultures through music and by fostering that connection the Festival of the Island’s has already opened the waves of communication in an optimistic direction.

In the eyes of all those involved and who participated, the Festival of the IslandFirst Edition was a true success. On the right track again this year, the legacy continues and by choosing a different location and changing the date to April 19th, these two organizations are focusing more on guarantying a great show. With compas bands such as T-Vice, Djakout Mizik, Kreyol La, CaRiMi and a Racine band like the legendary, Boukman Eksperyans, the Festival of the Island Second Edition would not be complete without infusing a Dominican flavor into the line-up, therefore hit makers El Lapis will be on hand to make sure that the quality of music is well balance and perfectly synchronized.

By adding a series of exciting festivities surrounding Saturday, April 19, 2008, the Festival of the Island will prelude on March 1st with groups T-Vice and Kreyol La at GuacaraTaina. Closer to the day of the festival, on April 18th there are two magnificent parties scheduled with Carimi and T-Vice at Club Codia and Djakout Mizik and Kreyol La at Club Libanes. All of these celebrations will have a hue of the exhilaration, anticipation and togetherness that will be the center of the Festival of the Island Second Edition on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at LSP Parc in Santo Domingo. The raging sounds of  Compas music, Reggaeton and Racine coupled with the high spirits that will be felt at this venue are all the ideal pieces to the puzzle that will paint the picture of perfection this Spring in the island Hispaniola, where Haitians and Dominicans will once again share their culture, traditions and heritage.
