![]() SOLAR BOTTLE: Water-purifying drinking container
From Italian product designers and innovators Francisco Gomez Paz and colleague Alberto Meda comes Solar Bottle. Solar Bottle is an improved version of the typical and ordinary water bottles. However, this modern bottle is entirely made in full sophistication. What is more amazing and noteworthy about the Solar Bottle is that it is designed and made especially to help produce safer drinking water. The inventors of the bottle said the innovation was designed and developed with the third world countries in minds. Now, nations like
Solar Bottle is specifically using a water cleansing system called SODIS, short for Solar water Disinfection. The process is also more popularly known as a method called solar water pasteurization. SODIS is noted as a special and highly sophisticated process of drinking water disinfection exclusively using only sunlight in its most raw form. While it is a fact nowadays that water purification and cleansing can be done using various technologies and techniques like distillation, diffusion and chlorination, it is noted that all these are expensive and are not totally feasible especially in communities where there are limited financial resources. In this sense, Solar Bottle is very practical. Looking at the overall design of the Solar Bottle, you surely would be awed and delighted by the inventors' ingenuity. The bottle would look like an ordinary water container only that there are two sides. The first is consisting of a transparent side that facilitates better absorption of ultraviolet rays from the sun. On the other side is an aluminum-colored face that strategically facilitates increased sunlight reflection. Thus, the bottle, when exposed to sunlight would maximize the solar light. In turn, the radiation and light collected from the sun would be utilized to purify the water inside the container. To use the Solar Bottle, the user needs to expose the bottle to sunlight for about six hours, for complete purification process. The heat generated is facilitating a cleansing process that is almost identical to boiling. The water container can hold about 4 to 6 liters of water. Solar Bottle is very much ideal to be used in countries like
